Delightful DIY| Hair Bow

Hello my lovelies, today I thought I’d show you how to make a quick and easy hair bow!
This bow is the ultimate accessory! You can make them in all different colours, sizes and patterns. They go with everything. Personally I’m a fan of sticking one in my ponytail everyday!

MATERIALS
• Fabric
• Basic sewing supplies/ sewing machine
• Glue gun or craft glue (optional)
• Hair clip or bobby pins

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Begin by cutting out a 25cm x10cm piece of fabric, it doesn’t have to be exactly these, it depends how big or small you want your bow and I even ended up trimming mine in some places, you just want a good sized rectangle.

2
2. Fold it in half on the long side, right sides together. So now the piece is 12.5cm x 10cm.

3

3.Sew the two open sides together but leave the top open.

4

4.Turn right side out

5

5. At the open part, fold the fabric underneath to make a seam.

6

6. Now put the sides back together and sew

7
7.Check that all the sides are closed

9

8. Now fold the fabric up into a bow by folding up 1cm, then flipping the fabric over to the other side, then folding again and flipping, like you are making a paper fan.

10

11. Keep going until in is all done, then pinch it together in the centre.

11
12. Now sew the centre together. Do this by going backwards and forwards in a line with a sewing machine.

12

13.It should look like this

13

14. Then cut out a tiny rectangle of fabric, this will cover the centre part of the bow.

14

15. Fold this in half along the short side

15

16. Then sew along the long side

16

17. Cut off any excess seam otherwise it will bulge out

17

18.Twist the fabric to the seam is at the back in the middle( you can also flip it inside out) then wrap it around the centre of the bow

18

19

19. Then you can glue these together to the bow (optional, because we will sew)

20

20.After the glue, hold the two pieces together, we will be sewing as close as possible to the bow

21

21. Now sew them together

22

22.Then cut off the excess seam

23

23. You should have something like this

24

24. Now take a bobby pin and slide it in or hot glue a hairclip on

25

That’s it! All done!

Untitled picture

Now you can make a million bows to wear!

The Here and Now by Ann Brashares| Bitching Review

hereandnowTitle: The Here and Now
Author
: Ann Brashares
Genre: YA Dystopian Romance

Goodreads synopsis:
An unforgettable epic romantic thriller about a girl from the future who might be able to save the world . . . if she lets go of the one thing she’s found to hold on to.

Follow the rules. Remember what happened. Never fall in love.

This is the story of seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.

Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth.

But everything changes when Prenna falls for Ethan Jarves.

What happened: In the years leading up to the turn of the century of 2100, it seems anything is possible, even time travel. Though, due to the carelessness of the previous generations, the world falling apart. The population is being wiped out by a deadly blood plague carried by mosquitoes, but a sliver of hope remains for the few survivors…time travel. From the year 2098, they travel back to the year 2010, with a hope to live quietly in another time stream.

Prenna James, one of the travelers is 13 when the story begins, she arrives naked in a creek with the numbers 51714 on her arm though no one has a clue what it means. 4 years later at 17, she begins to rebel against her communities leaders over the rules imposed on her. Prenna’s best friend/crush Ethan, helps her figure out what 51714 means and be another teenage superhero and save the world from the doomed future ahead.

My thoughs: When I first read started reading this book I was really confused, it seemed all over the place, though as I continued everything seemed to piece together and make sense. Though in saying that everything didn’t make sense… take time travel for instance. There was nothing in the book saying how or when it was developed, just that it happened. FOR GOD’S SAKE! HOW DID IT HAPPEN! TELL ME!!!

Then you have the Prenna and Ethan romance (if you can even call it that). Oh boy, how that was a train wreck from the beginning with the whole ‘love at first sight’ nonsense. But it seems throughout the whole book Ethan only exists to bail Prenna and provide some of the most ridiculously manufactured romantic situations. Even though  throughout the whole book it seems all Ethan wants to do is have sex with Prenna, they even plan it out, though no sexy times happen because they don’t want to ‘start the plague’. Oh god! Give me a break, that’s the most ridiculous ending.

But even with all the weird stuff, it was okay, nothing too great but it wasn’t anything I would rush out and buy.

Hooked by Liz Fichera | Bitching Review

Early Review: Played by Liz FicheraTitle: Played
Author
:  Liz Fichera
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Goodreads synopsis:

This Game Is Getting All Too Real
He said:
I like to keep under the radar and mostly hang out with my friends from the rez. But when I saved Riley Berenger from falling off a mountain, that rich suburban princess decided to try to save me.
She said:
If I can help Sam Tracy win the heart of the girl he can’t get over, I’ll pay him back for helping me. I promised him I would, no matter what it takes.

My thoughts: To be honest this book confused me, it just seemed rushed and all over the place, but being fair I haven’t read the first book in the series ‘Hooked’. This book is a romance about a girl (Riley) and a guy (Sam), who go to a leadership conference together and when they are doing a challenge in the woods Riley falls down a cliff sort of thing, Sam goes down and saves her but they are stuck and have to spend the night. Sam tells Riley he is in love with her brothers girlfriend  and she makes it her mission to get them together. They go through the whole ‘sexual tension’ and what not throughout the book until the predictably get together in the end. This book wasn’t for me, it was an easy read and you didn’t have to think in it but it’s not something I’d rush out and get. I’d recommend this book for the 12-15 year olds that like romance.

Don’t even think about it by Sarah Mlynowski |Bitching Review

Title: Don’t even think about itDon't even think about it
Author
:  Sarah Mlynowski
Genre: YA Paranormal

Goodreads synopsis: We weren’t always like this. We used to be average New York City high school sophomores. Until our homeroom went for flu shots. We were prepared for some side effects. Maybe a headache. Maybe a sore arm. We definitely didn’t expect to get telepathic powers. But suddenly we could hear what everyone was thinking. Our friends. Our parents. Our crushes. Now we all know that Tess is in love with her best friend, Teddy. That Mackenzie cheated on Cooper. That, um, Nurse Carmichael used to be a stripper.
Since we’ve kept our freakish skill a secret, we can sit next to the class brainiac and ace our tests. We can dump our boyfriends right before they dump us. We know what our friends really think of our jeans, our breath, our new bangs. We always know what’s coming. Some of us will thrive. Some of us will crack. None of us will ever be the same.

My thoughts: So basically this was about a group of highschoolers who get their flu shot, but the batch their homeroom got was botched. They all got telepathy and a purple tint in their eyes. They go through finding out about the telepathy, using it and all the troubles it comes with then deciding whether to keep it or not. To be honest, this book wasn’t for me but it was a good book. I feel that it would be suited towards younger audiences, probably in the 11-14 age range as I don’t think the content will appeal to older teen readers. It’s a cute, light, funny book and it deals with issues that pre-teens/younger teens face like body image, popularity, anxiety and friendships and relationships just to name a few. For me it seemed the humor in  this book was kind of juvenile and some of the content aswell. The perspective in this book jumps around a bit, which drove me crazy at the start though it works in the overall concept of the book. Instead of an ‘I’ point of view it was ‘we’, it was all the students telling the story, with random interjections at times which made it a little confusing.
Overall this was a decent book though it would be suited to a younger audience.
